Inclusion in the Community

Your friendship and advocacy can be especially meaningful for your buddy outside of school, where programs for people your age may not always be designed to accommodate their unique challenges. For example, think of the activities that you, your siblings, or friends participate in that aren’t connected to the school. These activities might include an after school program, a private sports club, music lessons, or a faith-based youth group. Some of these settings are likely to be more adaptable to your buddy’s needs than others. Talking with your friend or buddy about their interests, and the ways in which they might like to be involved in the community is important. Based on your interests, choose one of the following units to read and complete regarding community inclusion: Recreational Inclusion or Faith Inclusion.
