Promoting Peer Tutoring as an Elective

When you are proposing to begin a peer tutoring class you will need to fit it into a department as an elective. Some schools allow for general elective courses, but most schools require that every elective be in a department. Across the state of Kentucky we have found peer tutoring to fall into 3 different departments as an elective. We have found it to be listed as a social studies elective, a vocational elective, and as a special education elective.

Before making any decision on your own, you should talk with the school counselor and decide where it would best fit.

After making a decision, you then need to discuss your decision with the department head of where you are listing the course. When working with the counselor, make sure that you follow all of the policies and procedures laid out for getting new electives approved.
