Printable version for Suggestions for your Final Activity Suggestions for your Final Activity The idea of a culminating or final activity is that it can take the place of a final written exam. The ideas that are listed below are not the only ones that students can pick from, but are only suggested options. The teacher can add more options or can adapt these ideas. Peer tutors may have suggestions of their own, as well! Some of these ideas are great assignments for Peer Tutoring II, III or IV. ** Develop a written report on a specific disability. ** Develop a short review of 5 different disabilities. ** Read and critique 5 children’s books on disabilities. The books need to be decided upon by the teacher and the student. ** Read and critique a chapter book or novel about a disability. The book needs to be decided upon by the teacher and the student. ** Develop a reference list with short abstracts of pleasure reading books on different disabilities. ** Explore 5 different jobs in which you could work with people with disabilities. ** Visit and review 5 different community agencies that assist people with disabilities. The agencies need to be decided upon by the teacher and the student. ** Conduct a disability awareness lesson with a regular education class. The teacher of the class needs to give permission and write a report for the group. Before the lesson is taught, it needs to be reviewed by both the regular education teacher and the special education teacher. ** Develop a bulletin board on disability awareness issues. ** Develop a lesson to be taught or displayed on “people first” issues. ** Develop and teach a disability awareness lesson for an elementary class, church group, youth group, etc. The arrangements and the lesson need to be reviewed before teaching. After you have taught the lesson, a report needs to be written and verified to turn in for a grade. ** Develop 5 informative pamphlets on disabilities. ** Critique a building on the accessibility of the facilities for people with disabilities. ** Watch and critique 2 movies, TV shows, or videos on disabilities. The movies, TV shows, or videos need to be decided upon by the teacher and the student. ** Complete a task analysis of 3 predetermined activities. ** Take 2 social or recreational leisure skill that you do everyday and make adaptations or modifications for a specific student to participate. ** Take a selected list of laws or court cases (as decided upon by you and your teacher), which have had an effect on special education or disabilities, and write a review of each. ** Take a look at your job or place of employment and do a written report of modifications or adaptations that could be made so that a specific student could work there. ** Do a report on the history of institutions and people with disabilities. ** Complete a MAPS or Circle of Support (see the unit on these) for one of the students in our program. You will need to obtain permission from the teacher, the student, and the student’s parents in order to develop this activity. ** Select a 3-5 assistive technology devices and write a review on each one. ** Select a specific physical disability and do research on the different assistive technology devices that are available to help persons who might have that disability. ** Select a lesson from one of your regular education classes and complete
a write-up on the modifications or adaptations that could be used to allow
